'Unofficial' cheese rolling event at Coopers Hill
31 May 2010

About 100 people were thought to be at Coopers Hill for an unofficial race

An annual cheese rolling contest in which contestants chase cheese down a steep hill has gone ahead despite officially being cancelled.

The event at Coopers Hill in Gloucestershire was called off on health and safety grounds after 15,000 people attended last year.

Officials feared the event could not host so many people safely.

Despite the warnings, more than 100 people were believed have attended an unauthorised cheese-rolling event.

More than 11,000 people have joined a campaign to bring back the event.

Meanwhile, up to 5,000 people were estimated to have turned up to watch annual woolsack races in Tetbury this year.

The woolsack race involves running up a steep hill carrying heavy sacks.

Stephen Hirst, from the Woolsack Race, said: "It's a mediaeval tradition. Men carry 60lb (27kg) woolsacks, the ladies carry 40lb sacks (18kg)."

The course runs from The Crown in Gumstool Hil
l to the Royal Oak at the bottom of the hill, a distance of about 280 yards.

Tripoli is an old city and its roots belong to the Roman era , I do recommend starting a journey to Libya from there with a beautiful warm spacious beaches with many facilities like good hotels and restaurants , and how about the main museum in which you can view a large picture about our history and culture. Another good idea is going to the old city there ,it is a clear example of how the life and the architecture were in the past .

With the development of modern cities, an increasing number of people have travelled to tourist cities. as a result, many countries and governments have been working to develop their cities to attract a large number of tourist. My city is one of these cities which has changed gradually and there are many places that should be visted. if u visit Riyadh city, u ought to go to old Riyadh which is called Al-Dirriyah.

Another place in Riyadh, which had a long history for the royal family in Saudi Arabia, is Almasmak place.
The most significant thing in Saudi Arabia in general and specifically in Riyadh must be experienced is weather the I think there is no place over the world has high temperature as that Riyadh. In the summer the temperature approaches to 44c and nowadays is time for storm.

King Fahad Stadium is one of the best stadium in the world . So, there is no worth of visiting to Riyadh with out going to King Fahad stadium.

Dzialoszyn my family town

Dzialoszyn is a small town in the central part of Poland but in my opinion very gorgeous. Also one of the oldest towns of Poland. There are many ruins of a gothic and Renaissance castle built in 14 the century. Limestone rock, typical of this area. In the 16th century it used to be the family nest of such families as Suliszczyk, Boner, Firlej, and Warszycki. In the last years the castle belonged to the Mecinski family.Nowadays there is a beautiful, romantic restaurant called "Palace".

If you visit Dzialoszyn, you must go to Zaleczanski District Park. There are many wild animals like deer, foxes, unique birds and flowers.

My town "Hiroshima" in Japan

If you visit Hiroshima in Japan, you must go to the Peace memory of Park. Do you remember that a day of the 6th of August, 1945 at 8:15am? We mustn't never forget that the United States of America dropped an atomic bomb to Hiroshima. You can experience the destruction of Hiroshima City immediately after the bombing and the suffering of the people.

And also, you must eat Hiroshima traditional food "Okonomiyaki". It is cooked with various ingredients, which are layered rather than mixed together as done. The layers are typically egg, cabbage, beansprout, sliced pork/bacon with optional items topped (some sea foods, rice cake, fried noodles etc.) with another layer of egg and a generous dollop of Okonomiyaki sauce. Many Hiroshima people are eat that 2times per week at home or restaurant.

Hiroshima is one of interesting city. Surely, you can enjoyed your journey in Japan.

One funny thing that i had in my trip from europe when i was in paris!

At the end of my travels I met one friend from England his name is Duncan. We have been friends for long time but I had never been with him on a trip " you know what I mean" like sharing room, going dancing, geting breakfast and things like that. The point is that I spent time with Daniela from Colombia and Duncan for about one week and It was the funniest week of my trip. You know! I am always happy and friendly and I have a really good sence of humor, So you can imagine how funny and sometimes embarass thing I'd lived during this trip. To be honest with you I never stopped laughing.

One example of this experience of life was one day on a saturday night, when we had planned to go dancing and we were on the metro and after couple of minutes some guys from mexico got on the metro. Thet were 3 girls and 2 boys, they were really noisy and screaming "Mexico Mexico" and things like that. One girl in particular was trying to be very flirty with my friend and she was trying to start a conversation with him, So my friend asked what were you celebrating? and she say her graduation from a special private school in the forest. My friend asked again What did they teach you? and she very proudly sound they taught us How to be a woman, How talk propely, How to have a great conversation, How to be a lady very decent and educated.

The point is that she was the opposite of that all time in the metro so my friend answered her, and also in this forest colleges I am sure that they teach you  How to move andact like a BADGER!. And every body was laughing at her. My friend, the people that was on the metro and also her friends couldn't stop laughing forquite a long time. And i said to my friend PUT YOUR FOOT IN YOUR MOUTH!

The most exciting book that I've ever read

I'm going to write about the most interesting book that I've ever read in my life. Seven months ago I've started to read my second serious English book 'Angels in my hair'. During reading this book I was very excited because  subject Angels always fascinated me. Every  day for the last  four month I've read my book and stayed up at night.
Lorna Byrne is an author book 'Angels in my hair'. Lorna is an mistic who sees angels and spirits. In her book ' Angels in my hair' she tells life story shares the inspiration and teaching. She lives in rural Ireland. Lorna is a mother  with four children. She is finally doing what the Angels have been asking her to do for several years. This book is very fascynating because author talking openly for the first time about what she has seen and learned from Angels. When I finished this book I couldn't belive that these things have happened in real life.
Lorna knows that some people are cynical about the topic of Angels.

Lots of things have happened in my life, funny, good, bad and of course big mistakes. But the thing I still remember is an experience with ice-skating. At the same time it was funny and dangerous. On day I waked up in the holiday of winter after the first semester in the university and I went to a famous place in Paris called “La Defense”. On That day the city council had put a new ice-rink. I was much exited to try this sport for the first time in my life.

There was a long queue to access to the ice-rink because it was for free. I remember I waited for one hour to finally access to it. Even thought I could not skate for one meter because I didn’t know the technique I continued trying despite I fell several times. After one hour of that exiting activity I came back to the halls where I used to live.

The experience was exiting, so I decided to tell my best friend about it. In that moment we had planed to go ice-kiting together. The next day, we went to the ice-rink, we borrowed the adequate shoos and we began ice-skating. When I was enjoying my second experience I saw my friend fall dangerously on his head. He was injured and he lost lot of blood. This made me very scared about him. We called the emergency services, fortunately he hadn’t a serious problem and after a couple of days in the hospital he left in good state. Now when I remember, it makes me some joke and some frustration.

Ayman AL-Ghamdi Making a Small Mistake lead to a Huge Problem

With the development of human society, many stories have been happened among people. In fact, some of them are funny and others may be dangerous but it is obvious that teenagers have many interesting stories, such as making mistakes which may lead to a huge problem. In this essay, one story will be clarified in terms of making a serious by a small problem.

The events of that story were taken place five years ago in Saudi Arabia when the writer was travelling from mountainous city to coastal city. In addition, he must use a dangerous way to go there and there is no doubt the danger increase when there are many cars at the same time because the road is known as the most dangerous road at that time. Indeed, his car was anew and but the windscreen wiper was completely damaged. Moreover, he did not change it because he though the weather will be nice but unfortunately it started to rain during the journey. Therefore, the view was not clear and suddenly the previous car was stopped in a narrow area. He crashed that car and caused other crashes. In fact, approximately sixteen cars were destroyed in that collision but no body was injured.

In conclusion, it is clear that because the windscreen was not changed, it caused a huge crash that contained sixteen cars. Indeed, it is necessary to check the car and being preserved.

The best day of my life by Valeria

The best day of my life was the day of my graduation, December the 2nd of 2009. I had been studying languages in Trieste (in the north of Italy) for 6 years and, a few months ago, the day finally arrived.

I studied for all the exams with a very close friend of mine, Federica, and she graduated in that day too. The day before, my parents, my sister and my friends arrived from Sardinia and we had dinner in my house; it was really very funny because everyone was very excited for the day after.

The night before my graduation day I didn't sleep very well, I woke up at 6:30 am and I felt very stressed and nervous. At 10:30 am Federica discussed her thesis and she graduated with the maximum score. I was very happy for her but at the same time I felt really stressed because I had to wait for my turn.

Finally, the moment arrived for me too and I finished my university studies with the maximum score. I was really happy, everyone was crying for the happiness and the party was very funny: in the north of Italy there in a strange tradition: when a student graduates, his friends make him a lot of jokes and force him to walk around the city disguised in a ridiculous way.  So, Federica an I were disguised and our friends forced us to sing and dance in the main place of the city.

Another tradition for the graduation day is to write a very long poetry about the student's life with all the mistakes and the embarrassing things of his life. The student has to read it and to drink something alcoholic when he makes a mistake, so at the end of the day we were a little drunk but we were really very happy!

An unexpected Happy day by Angela

I can remember exactly that day...it was my graduation day!!!!

It was summer and very warm...everything was ready, my thesis, my dresses and I felt very excited.
I did not sleep the days before, but then I went to the University and I started the discussion of my project research.

I could not believe, at the end of the discussion all professors congratulated me...and then I realised that I had finished!!! I remenber mam's and daddy's eyes, they were very proud of me...and then my friends, I have to thank them for their advises and their moral support.

The funniest thing happened after the discussion. My friends organized for me a party...an unexpected party!!It was very nice, my friends planned everything, they found the place, the dj for music...we danced all the night and everybody had fun!!

At the end of the day I was very tierd, but at the same time satisfied and proud of myself  because finally I had achieved one of my ambitions.

One of the worst days of my life

Beginning of the 2008, I started to work on a new project which is related to internal migration . The project was going to be implemented in Eastern part of Turkey and I needed to move from Ankara to another city in the East. As I had always wanted to work Eastern part of Turkey, I was happy I was going to experience a different culture which slightly different from I was used to.
After all arrangements had done, I moved to my new city on 03.01.2008. My first day vas busy and funny. I went to see my new flat and new office. Because we hadn't bought furniture yet, I was staying in a guest house.
When I arrived at the guest house I heard some noises from lobby. As I went to the lobby I saw a news bomb explosion on TV. There was a terrorist attack and 7 high school students was killed. A few seconds after I realized the attack was happened near my new apartment after I had left there. I thought I would be there because I walked on that way the explosion happened.

FAHMI & ALEX TO BALFAST

I do remmber a day which was both the worst and the best day in Nottingham city.
I remmber when Alex who is my best freind and I decided to go to Belfast , so in 4th of march
we streted our journy from Nottingham by flight.
On that day we were unlucky becouse we had many troubles , the first thing I forgot my wallet so i had to go back to get it , and after my we missed the bus.
we did not have enough time so we decided to take a taxi which we spent too much money to go to
East Midlands Airport, anyway after we arrived , we sterted our immigration and security but when we reached the flight they asked me to have put stamp on my ticket , I started to argue with the security then I told to myself , stop an arguement and shall I go to have a stamp, so I whan back to the beginning but my freid stayed there waiting for me , till I come back to the flight.

to be continued.....................

The funniest thing that's ever happenend to me- SeoHee

I went to Mongolia with my sister and some friends 4 years ago. We stayed a week, we went through exciting experience such as Mongolia traditional food, tour, etc.

One of the funniest experience, that's we went to the folk village. In fact, the folk village wasn't exciting but it was exciting our journey to went the folk village.
We divined two cars. Unfortunately our car was not good, some problems, it was cold and not working very well.

When we'd finished the tour and returned, we lost the way to return. There weren't any lights and any sign. It was too dark, we couldn't see any thing but we tried finding the way, we drove around for a hour. Suddenly, the car stopped and it was sounded very horrible. We started finding the problem. Finally we found it because of tyre. So, we waited our helper and then we arrived our place safely.

I wasn't afraid that situation. I was excited because I always imagined about adventure but I didn't have any opportunities. However, that situation fixed my imagination adventure and I never forget it.

Journey To Sherwood Forest (Abdulrahman)

The most dangerous thing I've ever done in my life is when I went to Sherwood forest inside a place called adrenaline jungle. It's about 45 minutes driving by car to the north of Nottingham, in the center of Sherwood forest there are different kinds of campaigns and tents inside the forest with a lots of things to do.

I chose to experience how the soldiers live in the forest with a group of friends equipped with a semi auto shotgun, military suit and goggles to protect our faces and facing another group inside the forest with dangerous traps, lots of trees and covers everywhere. Cooping with your group to accomplish missions is hard sometimes and it is difficult to defeat other group and avoiding traps at the same time.

I really enjoyed that day and we spent around 7-9 hours in Sherwood forest which is really a unique place and fun. I strongly recommend everyone to go there and enjoying the real life in a forest like Sherwood .

The most dangerous thing I've ever done

For my 26 th birthday there was a surprise waiting for me and I didn't know.
I woke up in the morning and my boyfriend told me that I had to put on confortable clothes because we were going to a place I didn't know.
I was blindfolded all the trip and when we arrived at the place and took off the blinfold I realised that I was to parachute.
After five minutes wewere on the plane with all the equipment, everything happened quickly and after ten minutes we were flying and ready to jump.
My heart was beating fast but I had a really nice instructor who explained all that was to happen then. We jumped, we were falling in the sky for about one minute, it was only one minute, but it felt like ten minutes, you can feel like you are stopped in the air. The most exciting moment is when you are jumping and after the falling when the instructor opens the hang glider it's like flying.
It was so beautiful... I recommend this activity that I did in Empuriabrava, Spain.
It was a beautiful day with blue sky and hot weather. When I was in the air I could see the mountains and the sea. It was perfect.

Michael Jackson, the "king of pop", by Valeria and Joanna

The "king of pop" was born in Gary (Indiana) on August 29, 1958. His carreer started when he was a child: his father created a boyband: The Jackson Five. Michael, at that time, started singing whit his brothers and sisters: Tito, Jermaine, Jackie and Marlon. His father forced them to sing and dance.

In 1982, Michael's solo carreer started with his first album "Thriller". With this song, the king of pop won 8 Grammy Awards and Thriller's video, directed by John Landis, is the most elaborate video in the history of music.

Michael Jackon is famous also because he invented a dance move, the "moonwalk". This singer seemed to be affected by a "Peter Pan syndrome", so he created his personal amusement park, "Neverland", with exotic pets and amusement rides; he also opened the runch for children's events.
There were a lot of rumours about Michael Jackson: people said that he was lightening the color of his skin to appear more white and he was accused to molestate children but the police didn't found any evidence in his house and Michael maintained his innocence.

In 1994 he married Lisa Marie Presley, but they divorced after two years: people said that their wedding was a publicity stunt. In 1996 he married Debbie Rowe and he had two children with her. Jackson became the most famous pop singer in the world: his mos famous songs are: Billie Jean, Thriller, Black or White and Heal the world. Succes was very stressful for him because he was a very sensitive man, so he started taking a lot of drugs and maybe that's the raison why he died on June 25, 2009 of cardiac arrest. His death was a real shock for his fans, because he was supposed to play a concert in London in July.
